One moment of your time, please!

Since I first watched „The Little Mermaid“ in 1989 I have been obsessed with mermaids. I was fascinated and wanted to be one myself. From that day on I swam/dove with my legs and feet together and collected all things mermaid-y. Three years ago I fulfilled my biggest dream and created my own first tail (photo below) and surprised a little girl at her birthday.

She was amazed, clapped her hands and jumped up and down. All her friends asked me hundreds of questions and couldn’t get enough of touching my soft tail. Unfortunately this tail wasn't made for water and when the little girl asked me to have a swim with her all I could do was deny her wish and explain that I had twisted my tail. I promised I’d have a splashy swim next time I'd meet her. She was almost crying, which broke my heart, but understood quickly and begged me to go to the next fish doctor. *LOL* Seeing all those happy faces, sharing their excitement was one of the most wonderful experiences in my life.

Even if I’m a land-locked mermaid, I want to keep my promise to the little girl and fulfill HER biggest dream and that of so many others.

Since [livejournal.com profile] magic_art has grown to be such a wonderful community, made by wonderful members who are really dear to our hearts, I thought we could move something. We have over 1500 members (!) and if only half of you would donate $1.50, I could order a swimmable tail from themertailor.com and could keep my promise and surprise many other girls and boys. I also try to save as much money as I can, which will be difficult with lots of round birthdays coming up and car parts to buy. Still, I'll try my best (watch out for the ticker on [livejournal.com profile] magic_art's profile!).

Also [livejournal.com profile] magic_art would get its own mascot: a mermaid created and shaped by our members!!! How, you may ask? It’s not only the money, you will also have a say about the tail colour and my mermaid name! AND you’ll get one customised icon with your username (or the name of your choice) too, using one of your interests on your profile as theme. All you have to do is donate $1.50 (or more if you want and are so generous) on my PayPal account. There you can leave a little message in which you write what name you want for your icon, which tail color you prefer and a suggestion for the mermaid name. (You can see all the available colours HERE!). If you donate $10 or even more, you will also get a customised colourbar!!!

I know we can create something wonderful together. Let’s make this world a better place for children in which their dreams can come true.

Only $1.50…

Have you considered doing it as a kickstarter campaign? You might have more success with that, since it's more secure than just donating and you'd get more potential donators.

This is SO nostalgic for me! What an awesome scene. Summers under the waters of the pool with kids and friends... just LOVE it.

Very well done

*hugs* I can completely understand your childhood dream and appreciate you wanting to do this for this little girl. And for the little girl inside you, as well. ;) When I was small, if I didn't want to be a faery, I wanted to be a mermaid. LOL ♥♥♥

Thank you! You are the artist and have complete autonomy. 8D

What a lovely idea - you can count me in, I haven't made a charity donation this month so I'm happy to give to your wonderful cause.

Good luck raising the money ♥

I'm in! This is so sweet and amazing, I truly wish you all the luck in the world.
I second the kickstarter idea, that could get your cause out to a lot of people!

I'll try my best to donate, but the Mertailor is NOT the way to go. His tails aren't as advertised (most of the photos are photoshopped), he has shoddy workmanship (my silicone tail was covered in ugly boil-like bumps and was completely see through in the front) and has horrible customer service skills (some people wait up to 6 months for their tails)

He's ripped me off twice with both his silicone and latex tails.

There are many other companies that you can buy from that are more well received than him.

And I'm sorry if this message comes off as super negative, but I just don't want you to go through what I had to go through because it's really disheartening, especially if it's your first tail.

This is so sweet--I've never heard of this before! I would have loved to have met a real mermaid when I was little (heck, I think I'd love it now!). I will send you a donation later today, when I'm on a more reliable internet connection. **hug**!

Oh, thank-you! I love coffee and even collect icons for the purpose of announcing through art my consumption thereof while commenting on other persons' entries and responses. This is perfect! Thank-you.
